Horacio Elizondo Appointed as President of the Referee Commission in Costa Rica

The Costa Rican Football Federation confirmed this Wednesday the Argentine Horacio Elizondo as the new president of the Referee Commission.

Immediately, the Argentine, with a 22-year career in various South American countries and with outstanding work in major and youth world championships, must begin a thorough analysis of what will be found in our country.

“Before setting these objectives, it is important to make a diagnosis and see its structure, its strengths and weaknesses, and also engage the rest of the protagonists of football, both players, coaching staff and directors, so that they give their point of improvement in refereeing” , he expressed.

Elizondo sees his arrival in Costa Rican arbitration as a challenge.

“For me it is a real pleasure to do something that I enjoy, that delights me in being able to contribute to the enrichment of the entire support and structure of refereeing, but more than a challenge and a challenge, it is a beautiful responsibility,” he added.

Of course, he admitted knowing very little about Costa Rican football or the conditions of First Division arbitration.

“I have to be honest, I know very little, but I was already familiarizing myself with the people from the federation to make the first diagnosis, but already knowing more. Through the experience I have had in other countries it has taught me that I have to know the culture, how they think and undoubtedly it is the fundamental starting point for the process,” he acknowledged.

Elizondo will also serve as referee advisor to the Bolivian Football Federation, a function that he will perform remotely.
