France’s Debut in the Softball World Cup Ends in Defeat

Victorious in the Euro in 2022, the France team qualified for the World Cup, which has been held since August. Almost a first in its history. The Blues had also qualified for the 2020 edition, but, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was postponed and then canceled.

The French therefore made their big debut in the World Cup (not to be confused with the softball one in which France participated in 1994 and 2016), this week in Myoshi (Japan), which hosted group B of the event (Group A was played in August in Canada).

Defeated by Japan, reigning world champion

Facing tough opponents, the French team had five matches to play and suffered five defeats, against Venezuela (11-1), bronze medalist at the 2016 World Cup, Japan (20-1), six-time world champion in title, Cuba (11-1), Puerto Rico (13-3) and Taiwan (15-5), finalist in 2018.

Japan and Taiwan qualified for the final group, which will take place next year in Canada. They joined the United States, Mexico and the Canadians. Venezuela, beneficiary of a wild card, will also be there.
