Cuba Wins Silver and Three Bronze Medals at Continental and Oceania Judo Championships

This Friday, Cuba achieved a silver and three bronze medals on the first day of the Continental and Oceania Judo Championships, in Calgary, Canada, a tournament in which 170 representatives from 24 countries participate.

The silver went to Orlando Polanco, in the 66 kilograms (kg), after losing in the final to the host Julien Frascadore. The bronze went to the Colombian Juan Hernández.

Polanco achieved three consecutive victories against the Argentine Iván Gómez, the Ecuadorian Lenin Preciado and the Canadian Frascadore.

The owners of Cuban bronzes were Jonathan Charón (60 kg), Magdiel Estrada (73 kg) and Maylín del Toro (63 kg), according to data that summarizes the Cuban News Agency (ACN)

For the bronze metals, Charón beat the Ecuadorian Juan Ayala; Estrada to the American Jack Yonezuca; while Maylín beat the Brazilian Ketleyn Quadros.

Two other Cubans, in seventh place

The other two representatives of the island with action were Zamarit Gregorio (48 kg) and Yurisleidy Hernández (52 kg), who finished in seventh place, after falling in their first bouts of the repechage and could not continue on their way to the discussion of the bronze medals from their respective divisions, notes ACN.

According to the program, this Saturday the following will appear for Cuba: Idelannis Gómez (70 kg), Lianet Cardona (78 kg), Idalis Ortiz (+78 kg), Maikel Mkencie (81 kg), Iván Silva (90 kg), Liester Cardona ( 100 kg), Andy Granda (+100 kg) and Omar Cruz (+100 kg).

The mixed team event is scheduled for Sunday, and so far the teams from Cuba, Canada and Brazil will be on the tatami, performing in the divisions of 57, 70 and +70 for women, and 73, 90 and +90 kg. for men.
