‘Anderlecht already has the first transfer target of 2024’

After the dramatic previous season, RSC Anderlecht has gone all out for the past summer mercato. In this way, the record champion brought in an army of new recruits. Nevertheless, one position remains quite poorly occupied.

Despite a somewhat rough start, RSCA has proven itself to be particularly effective on the transfer market in recent months. RSCA completed a total of 12 incoming transfers. In the closing days of the mercato, Kasper Schmeichel and Thorgan Hazard were also brought to the Lotto Park.

The arrival of the latter in particular was a great move by sporting boss Jesper Fredberg. Hazard must now provide coach Brian Riemer’s team with the necessary creativity. Something the team also needed in the first matches of the season.

Thin flush in the back

However, it is also striking that RSCA concluded its mercato with the arrival of an extra attacker/playmaker. The general expectation was that the people of Brussels would attract another defender. After the departure of Hannes Delcroix, the pool behind the duo Zeno Debast-Jan Vertonghen is very thin.

Ultimately, however, a new defender failed to materialize. But that may change in the long term. The report of the most recent fan board, the day before the end of the mercato, shows that Anderlecht will still attract a defender in January. “We could wait until the winter to see whether we need to bring in someone centrally in the defense,” it reads.

Internal solutions

Until then, RSCA will have to hope that nothing happens to Debast or Vertonghen. Although the sporting management believes that there are still sufficient internal alternatives available. “It is not easy to find the suitable profile, someone who can accept being the third choice behind Jan and Zeno. Moreover, we have Sardella, Augustinsson, Patris and even Delaney who can play in defense and who can change positions If necessary.”
