Water sports must grow independently, says Nelson Vargas

Nelson Vargas hopes that the restructuring of the Mexican Swimming Federation (FMN) is based on the independence of the disciplines, that each one generates its own resources with private initiative, even collaborating with the government, and that what is produced is applied in the development swimming, diving, artistic swimming, water polo, open water, and are not used as private businesses.

It is wise to rectify. They realized that the law was not being complied with, said the sports coach, leader and businessman, regarding the decision of the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (Conade), to withdraw the Unique Sport Registry from the FMN , which would have put an end to the defense that the head of the Conade held in favor of Kiril Todorov as president, even at the cost of conflicts with aquatic sportsmen, who withdrew their financial support.

Todorov, who is linked to a process released for embezzlement as president of the FMN, must deliver the federation with all the assets that have been generated during the administration that began in March 2009.

But far from that will that is expected in the aquatic environment, the FMN published an extensive unsigned document yesterday on the networks in which it emphasizes that the organism cannot be extinguished, that the suspension of the World Aquatics to Todorov and the federation is not res judicata and will defend its autonomy.

Likewise, it respects the decision of the Conade, which is with our general director and, above all, that the revocation of the RUD is due to the refusal of World Aquatics to re-affiliate the FMN, but it has nothing to do with an alleged non-application or diversion, neither for own use nor for others, of public resources administered by the FMN, the letter indicates.

The most important thing of all is that, hopefully, it is understood that the disciplines cannot be together, they must be divided, because giving power to a single person is giving him all the responsibility of managing four federations (swimming, diving, water polo, swimming artistic). It is essential that people who are interested in swimming develop it and seek their own resources through their skills, their work, Vargas said.

“Despite what they say, in this country there is no high performance or international competition, if it is not supported by the government. Federations do not generate resources. It happens that the money that is generated is not used, for the most part, in the development of the discipline. They think that since the civil association produced it through private initiative and everyone pays for their affiliations, as well as (registrations for) competitions, they consider that this is the utility. And it is not like that. What each federation generates is for the development of its athletes, not for a private entity, as unfortunately happens in many organizations in our country, lamented the former director of Conade.

Regarding the delivery that the dismissed FMN board of directors must make, Vargas, who was expelled as a member of the organization for denouncing the mismanagement, stated: It is not about removing the record and that’s it. No way. It does not fit in my head that they say a clean slate, because that is what they say in most of the federations. The one who leaves leaves the house empty. We need to see what was done with everything that was generated in 20 years, we are talking since Javier Careaga took control along with Kiril. Surely when Todorov arrived, the previous owner left an entire inventory, a document where he says exactly what is there for the work to continue.

Bronze for Balleza and Willars

Divers Diego Balleza and Randal Willars took bronze in the World Cup superfinal that took place in Berlin, Germany.

The Mexican duo achieved a score of 408.39 in the 10-meter synchronized platform, a test in which the Chinese Hao Yang and Junjie Lian (471.00) took gold and the Australians Cassiel Rousseau and Dominic Bedggood (411.84) won silver .
