The Czech Tennis Player Calls Out World Number One for Controversial Statements on Mental Fatigue

The Czech tennis player has attacked the number one in the world after her controversial statements about mental fatigue.

Iga Swiatek commented after her loss in Cincinnati that the schedule was very intense and the mental exhaustion of the players was causing withdrawals. She pointed out that it was time for the ATP and WTA to take action to prevent this from happening. These statements have not liked Martina Navratilova at all, who expressed her opinion about the words of the Polish. The Czech commented that she never considered taking a break and she always chose to go on vacation once the season was over. The players have a very different point of view, although it is true that the number of tournaments has increased.

Navratilova on mental fatigue

«Normally I played two or three tournaments between Wimbledon and the US Open. I felt tired after the US Open, not before. The only time it happened to me was in 1976, when we participated in World Team Tennis. We haven’t stopped playing tennis since April, with a three-week break for Wimbledon, and then we don’t stop again until two weeks before the US Open. I understand the stress that players experience. But, still, I have to say: ‘take it’. We are in September, you did not play many tournaments and we are at the US Open, so you cannot take it like that. If you’re so mentally tired, don’t play.”.

“Just take some time and go on vacation.. I never allowed it to myself, it never occurred to me. Or just accept it and say you’re okay. It’s only 2 weeks, 7 games and you’ll literally have to work for like 20 hours. You just have to show up, train for an hour, all the physical work is already done. You have to suck it up and put it in perspective with what normal people do for a living. This is what you wanted your whole life and you are here. You have to make yourself strong.”
