Teammates Shine: MVP Performances on August 27

MANILA (PHILIPPINES) – There’s nothing like a teammate to have your back. Like some of our best players on Matchday 3, they were glad another player on their team put in a memorable performance.

A performance so good that it even impressed the great Dirk Nowitzki. Dennis Schroder followed in his footsteps and became the second German to score 30 points in a World Cup game, enriching his performance with 8 assists and 4 steals in an 85-82 win against Australia. However, no basket was as important as the point guard’s in the last minute, which he put Germany up 83-81 thanks to his decisive layup.

Andrés Feliz scored the first points for the Dominican Republic when the score was 0-12 in favor of Italy. From that moment on, he went all out, like the entire Dominican team, in their 87-82 victory over Italy. Feliz hit three long-range shots in a short space of time in the second quarter to close the game with 24 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 7-of-10 3-point shooting.

The Finns are still looking for where Yuki Kawamura is going to pass the ball. The elusive point guard was instrumental in Japan’s 18-point comeback that ended in a 98-88 win against Finland. In a performance as effective as it was colorful, Kawamura added 25 points and 9 assists, making 10 of 16 shots from the field.

Where Kawamura was, nearby was Josh Hawkinson. Hawkinson played a pivotal role in the run that took Japan to a 79-78 second-half lead, giving it his all in every second of his 37 minutes of play. The center from Japan left the court with 28 points, 19 rebounds, a whopping 14 free throws and the best rating of the tournament to date, 44.

Only good vibes for Karl-Anthony Towns and the Dominican Republic so far! Towns was a man among boys for the second consecutive game, since in this World Cup he had already achieved a double-double of 20 points. This time he added 24 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. The versatile big man also joined in the fun from center, as he made four of the team’s 16 successful attempts from 3-point range.

Those are the statistics, but the time has come for public opinion. Who is your MVP of the day?
