Sira Martínez is making a good start to the contest at Las Mestas. Sira is the daughter of former national soccer coach and former Sporting player Luis Enrique, current PSG coach, who is not uncommon to see live at the tests in which his daughter participates.
–Being in a soccer environment, how did your love for horses come about?
–Since I was little I have always liked animals, and horses in particular. I was always telling my parents that I wanted a pony and I started riding at a very young age, six years old. From there I have been riding more and more and here I am dedicating myself to this, and my parents like it more and more and they support me in everything.
–Lately it has been common in Gijón contests.
Yes, I’ve been coming to Chas for three years now and this is my second at Las Mestas, where I just got my first victory.
–I suppose that for you to win here will have something special.
–Of course, for me to be competing in Las Mestas is already special, since I was little I have always wanted to compete here and winning is already something incredible, a very beautiful and very exciting experience for me.
–You won the Spanish Young Riders Championship in 2020 and soon you have the absolute. With what objectives?
–I will go to the championship, but I still have to decide which tests I am going to skip because there are several types of championships. It will depend on how the horses are doing and it will be when I decide which events I jump with each one.
–And in the rest of the tests of Las Mestas?
–I want to run the ranking of the two-star contest and I will let “Devise du Salbey” rest, which is the one I won the first test with, so that she can recover, because today she was a little tired. I’ll run it again on Friday (morning) in the 1.30 test, to see if I can get into a good position.
What plans do you have for the coming months?
–From here I will surely go to an international to Saint Tropez, then maybe I will run the CSIO in Barcelona and also some other contest of the Sunshine Tour.
–If your father is characterized by something, it is that he is a man of character, do you think you have inherited something from him?
–At home they tell me that the most similar to my father is me. I have a very competitive character like he does, so I would say that I do have those Asturian genes that he says.
-When I started horse riding, I was the daughter of Luis Enrique who rides a horse. Do you think that over the years and her trajectory, she has already earned her own name?
–In the end, my father here is still an idol and it will be difficult for me to take that off, but I am very proud. That doesn’t mean that I don’t want to make a name for myself in horse riding and I think that little by little I’m getting there.
–How does it take to also be a bit in the pages of the so-called tabloids?
–I don’t think I’m much in that type of press, I make my life and there is no one who is following me or taking out the day to day so I don’t worry. I make my life and that’s it.
– Do you notice that the Gijón public is with you?
–Yes, I notice the support and I appreciate it.
