Shin Ishikawa’s Journey: From Danjiri to Professional Baseball

Shin Ishikawa, who has been active since moving to Lotte … Did you skip softball because you have a stomach ache?

Outfielder Shingo Ishikawa, who transferred from the giants to Lotte in the middle of this season and has continued to make impressive achievements, was inspired by “Danjiri” to step into the path of baseball. Mainly in western Japan, this term refers to the floats that appear at festivals.

Born in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, Shin Ishikawa started playing baseball in the third grade of elementary school. He had been on the softball team since freshman year, just before that. He didn’t like him from the beginning. He says that the reason he joined the local children’s association was the “Danjiri” that was perfect for the energetic Shin Ishikawa.

“At any rate, I wanted to draw a danjiri. To do that, I had to join a children’s association. Then it was decided that the boys would play softball and the girls would play portball. I said that and left,” he laughs. “That’s what was called ‘Shingo’s disease,'” so it must have been really common.

That’s why when I entered the softball team “Noda Hawks” in my third year, I didn’t go on my own. “It’s like the leader of the boys’ baseball team came to the pub I was working at at home, and my father forced me into it.” But it didn’t take long for him to fall in love with baseball. At that time, he showed no interest in the card games such as Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, and became a child who only practiced baseball.

“But I didn’t mean to practice.

The third year of high school became serious … Switch on with the words “Aim for professional baseball”

In junior high school, he chose the hardball “Junior Hawks Boys”. It is said that it was a natural flow in Kansai, where good children often proceed in a rigid manner. At that time, she was mainly playing as a pitcher, but she said, “I never thought I would become a professional baseball player. She is a team created by Yoshio Anabuki, who was the manager of Nankai (currently Softbank), and there are many opportunities for former professional players to teach her. It will be a while before Makoto Ishikawa’s days like this blossom.

When I was a sophomore at Higashi-Osaka University Kashiwara High School, I had an interview with director Hidemasa Tanaka (currently director of Kindai University). His words, “Aim for professional baseball,” were a new discovery for him. “I never thought of that. Let’s do it with obsession for the last year,” the switch turned on.

In the summer of 3rd year, he defeated Osaka Toin High School and participated in Koshien, and was nominated by Nippon-Ham in 3rd place in the draft. “It was a practice game, but when the referee said ‘I’m going to be a pitcher’ and took over, and when the fielders gathered on the mound, even if I was defending the outfield, they would run and participate. Director. It seems that he was happy with such a change.”

So, if he were to give advice to children who are playing baseball now, it would be “Let’s have fun.” However, the meaning is slightly different from that of humans. “Having fun means doing it with all your heart. You make a promise to yourself, and then you keep getting better at it. Even when the team was on vacation, I kept practicing exactly what I promised.” Makoto Ishikawa still declares that he loves baseball. As a result of his continued enjoyment, he reached the stage of professional baseball.
