FC Bayern: Christian Früchtl is developing – Kamil Grabara on the slip
Even as a teenager he was given the nickname “Mini-Neuer”. Because he saw no chance of playing with the professionals in Munich, he was first loaned to Nuremberg. Früchtl was only number 2 there. The keeper, who was born in Bischofsmais in Lower Bavaria, now plays for Austria Vienna: he impressed there last season and was voted into the eleven of the season.
Now his rise continues: Last week Früchtl was the player of the game in Austria Wien’s win at Legia Warsaw in the conference, holding on to the 2-1 win with his saves.

The experts in Austria roll over their heads with hymns of praise. Ösi legend Herbert Prohaska (68) writes in his column in the “Krone”: “Even the way he walks and runs is reminiscent of Manuel Neuer, on whose side he trained for years at Bayern Munich. In Warsaw he was as strong as Neuer before his injury.”
The former team boss of the Austrian national team continued: “Bayern would be happy if Neuer were already in the form of Früchtl.”
In fact, the German U21 national goalkeeper was practically an apprentice with Neuer and always had a close relationship with him.

Because of Neuer’s complicated rehabilitation, Bayern are now in a difficult situation. When exactly the captain returns, no one can predict today. Although Neuer did exercises today at the training ground on Säbener Straße, he is still a long way from maximum exertion.
Finding a man who can represent Neuer but would then vacate his post is proving difficult. The intended Kepa Arrizabalaga (28) ultimately decided to join Real Madrid. Kamil Grabara (24) from FC Copenhagen remains a candidate.

The Bavarian sports committee will meet again on Wednesday and also discuss the goalkeeping issue. Thomas Tuchel said last week: “It’s clear we’re looking for a goalkeeper. Someone who has the potential and the personality to be number one at Bayern and if Manuel comes back, can swallow his pride and be a team player.”
Meanwhile, Früchtl is growing into the top goalkeeper in Austria. He played for Bayern from 2014 to 2022 – with a short break. His current contract with Austria Vienna runs until 2025. Good for Bayern: They have secured a buyback clause from Früchtl.
