Amid the increasing number of residents taking night walks in Chudong Park, a mountainous neighborhood park in downtown Uijeongbu, residents are complaining of inconvenience as the trails and park lights around Yeonpoji Mokwon have not been working for over a month.

According to Uijeongbu City and residents on the 7th, Chudong Park is a mountainous neighborhood park with an area of 809,000㎡ that spans the downtown area of Singok-dong and Yonghyeon-dong. It was created as a private park special project in 2019.

Chudong Park has picnic trails from the back of Gyeonggi-do’s northern government building through Hyojabong Peak to the ecological passageway to the Chudong badminton court, as well as walking trails around nearby apartments, as well as theme spaces such as Yeonpo Branch Garden and Dodang Flower Garden, as well as sports facilities. Some picnic trails, walking trails, and theme spaces have park lights installed for residents to use even at night.

For this reason, many residents visit Chudong Park regardless of the season, and as the heatwave continues, the number of people walking with a flashlight at night or looking for some trails has increased significantly.

About 40 park lights are installed on the 1km walking trail from the back of P apartment, which is mostly visited by apartment residents in the Singok-dong area, to Yeonpoji Tree Garden, and to the Woori Flower Rock Garden. Except for that, it has been left unattended for over a month.

The park lights on the way up from Yeonpoji Tree Garden to the Korean Flower Rock Garden completely disappeared when a deck path was installed here a few years ago.

Residents of nearby apartments said, “Just before the sun went down and it got dark, the lights in Yeonpoji Mokwon Park turned on, but I don’t know when it didn’t come on. I go for a walk in the park with a flashlight,” he said. But this time it seems like it’s been a while since I reported it, but it’s still working.”

Regarding this, a city official said, “We will check the site and take action.”
