Neymar move to Saudi Arabia: football’s biggest waste of talent

In his new home, Neymar is asking for understanding: “Al-Hilal is a gigantic club. It will be fun to play in a league with all the top stars like Ronaldo or Benzema.” Neymar is convinced that Brazil will definitely follow this league. With the move to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, which is said to bring Neymar 160 million euros a year, the enfant terrible of Brazilian football does not cause any great enthusiasm in his home country. There are reasonable doubts as to whether the whole of Brazil will actually be watching when Neymar steps out at Riyadh’s King Fahd Stadium.

“Neymar is the biggest waste of talent in the history of football,” columnist Juca Kfouri draws a devastating conclusion for the respected São Paulo daily Folha. And dare a comparison: Frenchman Kylian Mbappé received an offer that was even higher than that of the Brazilian, but rejected it, unlike Neymar. “At the age of 24, seven years younger than Neymar, Mbappé has put his playing career and the achievements he aspires to above money. . . And he is world champion for France.” Kfouri describes the mood around Neymar quite well.
