National Human Rights Commission of Korea Investigates and Eliminates Skirt Requirement for Female Badminton Players

When the National Human Rights Commission of Korea launched an investigation into a regulation that limited female players to skirts in badminton competitions, the organization that held the competition deleted the regulation.

A sports organization stipulates that “female players must wear skirts” in the participation guidelines while holding a badminton tournament this year.

While the Human Rights Commission launched an investigation into this, Group A decided that the regulation was inappropriate in that it targeted women’s bodies and deleted it by itself.

The Human Rights Commission has stated that it will continue to pay attention and make efforts to ensure that all sports events are operated in a human rights-friendly manner and aim for gender equality.
