Nardò, a night of love – Sportando

An anxious and grenade-colored Salandra square “embraced” yesterday evening Nardò Basket, making its official debut in front of its fans. All the protagonists of the season that is about to begin paraded on the stage in the heart of the city, that of the club’s third consecutive participation in the A2 series championship.

A night of dreams and hopes, of enthusiasm and great participation, with the brilliant management of Mino Taveri, the TV journalist originally from Brindisi and a great basketball fan, perfectly at ease in a square that can’t wait to return to admire Coach Di Carlo’s boys on the pitch.

After the screening of a video with the highlights of last season, inevitably high in adrenaline, the club’s top management inaugurated the catwalk: the president Tommaso Greco, the deputy Marco Papadia, the administrator Cesare Barbetta and the member of the board of directors Ivan Marra. “We like challenges – said Tommaso Greco – even if this will be a particularly difficult championship, right from the start we promised you fans that we would play for ambitious goals and so it will be. Of course, your contribution will be needed, because a packed and active arena is an essential condition for the successes of Nardò Basket”.

It was then the turn of the rest of the management (the general manager Renato Nicolai, the sports director Matteo Malaventura and the team manager Simone Dell’Atti) and the members of the other areas of the club, i.e. the medical staff, the marketing & communication area and the services area. “Don’t leave us alone – Renato Nicolai appealed – because this club and this team need fans, after all we are living history, we are playing in a league of giants, of teams that have won cups and league titles. It will be complicated, but terribly beautiful. You have to understand the moment and enjoy it all.

There was also a focus on the season ticket campaign, with the repeated invitation to the many fans present to subscribe and “seize the moment” of the most beautiful and important moment in the history of Neretina basketball. The campaign has been open for a few days, will close on 23 September and will measure the affection and closeness to the team not only of the Neretini, but of all Salento fans of the ball in wedges. Nardò Basket, in fact, is the first team in the province of Lecce to play A2 basketball.

The temperature and volume of the square rose dramatically in the moment dedicated to coach Gennaro Di Carlo, the two assistants Gabriele Castellitto and Goran Bjelic and the athletic trainer Vanni De Pasquale. “A team is being born that I like for quality and temperament – said Gennaro Di Carlo – and that will have to know how to manage all the moments, the good ones and the bad ones of a long and very tough season”. The same coach acted as Taveri’s “support” for the call of the players, all excited and a little excited: the under aggregated to the group Gabriele Barbone, Kalidou Kebe, Lorenzo Scarano and Mattia Sportillo, last year’s veterans Matteo Parravicini, Andrea Latorre, Andrea Donda and the eagerly awaited Russ Smith, the new Lazar Nikolic, Antonio Iannuzzi, Matteo Ferrara, Lorenzo Maspero, Lazar Trunic and the second American, Wayne Stewart Jr. Applause and cheers for all.

Before the final greetings, Gennaro Di Carlo made the new captain official: he will be Andrea Latorre, in his third year in the grenade, a valuable player and a man of charisma and group.

Andrea Pasca’s “invisible presence”, sincere thanks to the Durante family, Ferrara and Maspero star performers on stage, Wayne’s shyness, Taveri’s jokes, promises, the feeling with Onda Granata, the other pieces of the mosaic of one night of love that “opens” the path of Nardò Basket in the 2023/2024 season.
