Men’s Supercup for the sixth time at Hard

Handball cup winner HC Hard won the national Supercup for the sixth time on Sunday. The Vorarlbergers defeated HC Linz 26:25 (15:14) in Upper Austria’s capital, the Linzers had come into play as runners-up for the champions Westwien, who voluntarily left the league. As in the league final, Linz missed its first title since winning the cup in 1997.

The decision remained open until the final second, when Linz were awarded a seven-metre throw. But hard goalie Constantin Möstl kept his nerve after an otherwise strong performance, as did his opposite number Florian Kaiper. Both keepers played for Westwien last season.

The women’s Supercup went to double winner Hypo NÖ with a 33:19 (16:9) against WAT Atzgersdorf.
