Marcedes Lewis Set to Make History with 18th NFL Season

Fifteen tight ends were selected in the 2006 NFL Draft. Of the lot, Marcedes Lewis was not the most productive or the most spectacular, but he made history in his own way.

According to journalist Tom Pelissero, Lewis is set to sign a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears. It would be his 18th NFL campaign, a new mark for a player in his position.

Pelissero notes that Lewis, who turned 39 last May, previously shared the record of 17 seasons with Jason Witten and Tony Gonzalez.

A first-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Lewis spent twelve seasons in Florida. He entered the Pro Bowl in 2010 after hitting career highs for touchdowns (10) and passing yards (700).

The 6-foot-6 colossus played five more seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He currently ranks fourth among players still active in games played with 251. The three players ahead of him – Andy Lee, Robbie Gould and Mason Crosby – are kickers and are all currently out of contract for the 2023 season. .
