Inbi Park Selected as Korean Candidate for IOC Athletes’ Commission

‘Empress of Golf’ Inbi Park has been confirmed as a Korean candidate for the IOC (International Olympic Committee) Athletes’ Commission.

The Korea Sports Association announced today (18th) that Inbi Park was finally decided as a domestic candidate after the decision of the Sports Association Athletes Committee and the approval of the Korea Olympic Committee Lee Ki-heung.

The election of the IOC Athletes Commission will be decided by voting by athletes during the Paris Olympics next year.

Previously, Park In-bi was selected as the Korean candidate after competing with Jin Jong-oh (shooting), Kim Yeon-kyung (volleyball), Lee Dae-hoon (taekwondo) and Kim So-young (badminton).

On the 10th, they received a closed interview by the Korea Sports Association Evaluation Committee, and Park In-bi, who received the highest score, was recommended as a single candidate through the Sports Association senior meeting on the 14th. After the decision of the Athletes Committee on the 16th and 17th, and the approval of Chairman Lee Ki-heung on the same day, the Korean candidate selection process was completed.

In the IOC Athletes Commission election next year, four new members will be elected.

Inbee Park won a gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, and won 21 victories on the LPGA tour, including the Grand Slam.

Based on these results, she was also inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame.
