Because Honorat explained after the game: “Despite the defeat, it was the best day of my life. I arrived at the hospital on Friday evening and my wife and I had a baby at 5 o’clock. I slept two hours. It was also the first time I played in such a big stadium with such incredible fans. I can’t wait to play in this stadium again in front of these fans.”
With very little sleep, Honorat also had to take on the defensive role on the right flank against Bayer – but this was not new territory for him!

Honorat confirms: “I’m used to playing in this system, I played in this position in St. Etienne. The system requires a lot of effort. I have to be intelligent and know how to manage my strength. I have to find the right pace and the right time to create a counterattack.”
Unfortunately, that worked far too rarely against the strong guests. Why didn’t Borussia just come into play?
Honorat: “Offensively we didn’t do what we should have done. We worked on our pressing this week and we were always a step too late. We need to let the ball run more, show more confidence, be brave and play football. We have the quality and the team to play football. The scenario is hard to digest.”
However, Gladbach only has a few days to do that – on Saturday (6.30 p.m.) it’s off to Bayern Munich in Borussia Park!
Honorat on the plans for how Borussia should approach the game: “We have to exert more pressure and show more intensity. We know that this is a team with a very high quality. We have to stick together, not give up and fight to the last second.”
