Grassow can proudly call himself the 1998 DFB Cup winner. At that time, the Berliner played alongside Oliver Kahn (54), Lothar Matthäus (62) and Giovane Elber (51) as a central defender under cult coach Giovanni Trapattoni (84) for FC Bayern.

Grassow made 51 appearances in the Bundesliga, 44 for Unterhaching and seven for 1. FC Köln

Unbelievable, but true: As the “tz” reports, Grassow is now the caretaker in a retirement home in the Munich suburb of Taufkirchen! The ex-Bayern player (used in the cup) is said to have had problems transitioning from his professional career to normal everyday work and found his job in a nursing home via detours.

But instead of mourning his time in the Bundesliga (51 games for Cologne and Unterhaching), Grassow seems to be really thriving in his far less glamorous environment.

He says to “tz”: “I feel good, I do it with passion. For the residents I am the housemaid for everything.”
