Could Günter Bresnik and Dominic Thiem Make a Comeback as a Duo?

Günter Bresnik (63) and Dominic Thiem (30) were once a successful duo. In 2019, the collaboration ended after 14 years – followed by a public mud fight including a trip to court.

But the desire for a comeback by the player-coach duo has become increasingly louder among tennis fans, especially since Thiem has no longer been successful.

“Not taking on the task would be idiotic”

In recent weeks, Bresnik has repeatedly hinted that he could imagine working with Thiem again. He now told the ORF: “I’ve let it through again and again. Regardless of what it’s called, I’ve always liked working with players who were nearing the end of their careers or were in phases where it wasn’t like that “It’s over, whether you can get it running again.”

Bresnik was also specific: “I think that I know Dominic pretty well and it would be easier for me than many others. Not taking on such a task as a coach would be idiotic.”

Bresnik seems to have made peace with the past. He said: “Apart from all the unpleasant things that have happened along the way, for anyone, and for me in particular, this is a job that would be very interesting to me.”

Clear rejection from Moritz Thiem

While Bresnik is open to a new edition, things are different in Team Thiem. A rejection comes from Moritz Thiem (24), Dominic’s brother and manager.

“From our side it’s a clear no. That won’t happen,” he told ORF.
