French Athletes Shine and Struggle at Tokyo Olympics

The men finished 7th. They beat South Africa, before falling to Azerbaijan in the quarter-finals. They then lost to Italy in repechage. The women did even worse: they were beaten by Japan in their first fight.

In taekwondo, Samuel Bédard took 5th place in the -58 kg category. He beat Mongol Sainbileg before being beaten by Iranian Hesseinpour in the quarter-finals.

For the first day of athletics, Mélanie Allier finished 6th in the 10,000m final. The French, on the other hand, shone in the 1,500m, with the series victory of Benoît Campion. Flavien Szot finished 3rd in the same race.
