Dornbirn Indians and Wiener Neustadt Face Off in Baseball Bundesliga Finals

Dhe Dornbirn Indians were already one and a half legs into the final of the Baseball Bundesliga on Saturday. Wiener Neustadt made up for a six-run deficit and fought back in the extra inning after 7:9. The final decision will be made in game five on Sunday (12 noon).

The Diving Ducks Wr delivered a real thriller. Neustadt and the Dornbirn Indians. While everything initially indicated that the Indians would advance to the finals, the Diving Ducks got back on track at the last moment and eventually won game four in an extra inning.

The Indians clearly won the first game of the day with 9:1. Pitcher Ryan Rupp, who stood at the mound for the entire nine innings and only had to accept four hits and one run, towered above. He also recorded ten strikeouts. On offense, Dornbirn was able to produce two runs in the first inning. It remained 2-0 until the fourth inning before Dornbirn increased it to 3-0, two more runs from last year’s finalists followed in the fifth inning, and another run in the sixth inning. With a score of 6:0, the Diving Ducks finally managed the first run. However, it was no more than a cosmetic result, as Pitcher Rupp and the Indians’ defense did not allow anything afterwards. On the offensive, the Indians added three more runs and so they conquered the 2:1 series lead.

Compensation, back behind and still won

In the second game Rick Van Dijck (Diving Ducks) and Shotaro Usui (Dornbirn Indians) faced each other at the mound. The Japanese Indians clearly won the pitcher duel, because after six innings the Indians were already leading 6-0. In the seventh inning, Usui conceded three runs and finally handed it off to Kruno Gojkovic. The Diving Ducks got into the game better and better after that and finally managed to level the game in the ninth inning. With the score of 7:7 we went into the extra inning. In this one, the Indians advanced with two runs, but the Diving Ducks responded with three runs and thus managed to turn the game around completely. After a “pitching error” by Ryan Rupp, the Ducks got the crucial two runs. The all-important game five takes place again at Ducksfield on Sunday at 12 noon.
