Carolina Marín Advances to the Final of World Championship with Victory Over Akane Yamaguchi

The Spanish badminton athlete Carolina Marín defeated the Japanese Akane Yamaguchi this Saturday with partials of 23-21 and 21-13, thus achieving her pass to the final of the World Championship that is being held in Copenhagen, Denmark. This triumph gives her the opportunity to fight for her fourth title in this competition.

Marín, who is the sixth seed in this World Cup, had a great first set against the number 2 in the world ranking. Although she started leading the score (1-0, 2-1), the Huelva native watched as her opponent recovered, reversing the score and obtaining a four-point lead (6-10, 10-14, 13-17, 14-18).

However, the Andalusian improved her defense in the backhand zone and attacked Yamaguchi’s drive zone with intensity. Despite the fact that the Japanese showed speed in the movements close to the net and had a set point, Marín countered with skill and finished her comeback with a 23-21 score.

With her confidence reinforced and despite starting the second set with a disadvantage (0-1), Marín found more space in her opponent’s court and, from 3-2, she did not give up the advantage. Controlling any attempt to react by Yamaguchi, the Spaniard maintained the difference until closing the second and final set with an advantage of +8.
