Besides on the racetrack, Dutch F1 driver Max Verstappen is also a favorite with his fellow drivers when it comes to popular children’s names in the Netherlands, the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) reports on the eve of the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.

After Verstappen’s win on September 4 last year in Zandvoort, his first name Max was given to 259 babies in the period up to and including July 2023. In doing so, he was well ahead of drivers Alexander Albon and Oscar Piastri, whose first names were given 175 and 135 respectively to newborns in that period. Lewis Hamilton, Verstappen’s eternal rival, also has fans in the Netherlands. In that period his first name was given to no less than 97 babies. He would be “sixth” among the F1 drivers and just has to tolerate Daniel Ricciardo (100 times) and Logan Sargeant (99 times).

The SVB publishes a list of the most popular children’s names every year. Last year Noah was the most popular boy name and the name Emma was most often given to girls. The list for 2023 will be announced in January. The SVB can publish the list of children’s names because the organization pays the child benefit every quarter. The first name Max has been high in the list of popular names for years. After Max Verstappen made his Formula 1 debut in 2015, the name temporarily became even more popular. In 2015, 575 little Maxjes were born and in 2016 the first name even ended up in the top 10 (617 times) of the SVB Children’s Name List.
