Benjamin Axus Disqualified in Budapest Masters Debut Due to Head Strike

Benjamin Axus, who made his debut in -73kg at the Budapest Masters yesterday Saturday, was disqualified after his head hit the mat while attacking.

After 52 seconds of fighting in the golden score, during this second round of -73 kg, the Frenchman launched an uchi-mata that Kosovare Gjakova tried to dodge. In the momentum, the Frenchman’s head touched the tatami, which the rules do not allow.

Axus had already received two penalties and a third which amounts to a disqualification. His Masters therefore ends in his first fight since he was not drafted.

“It’s the new rules of judo, it changes a little every week, so we try to stay informed. As soon as a piece of hair touches the mat, we are disqualified. But in judo, to bring down your opponent, you have to unbalance, there, I do the action, one of the only ones where I clearly send him into the air. He tries to dodge but my head must graze the ground so I get disqualified. It’s hard “says the Frenchman.
