Alessandro Frosini Praises Unahotels’ New Course and Promising Roster

by Gabriel Gallo

Alessandro Frosini promotes the new course of Unahotels with full marks. The unforgettable former player and red and white sporting director, protagonist of the glory years of Pallacanestro Reggiana, although also busy in August on the road to bring Verona back to Serie A, lingers on the roster set up by the Priftis-Coldebella duo, in particular on the return of Grant and the prospects of young Momo Faye.

Frosini, considering your knowledge, can you tell us how you see the Unahotels version 20232024?

“Obviously we are only talking on paper at the moment. And it must be said that, to date, Unahotels can easily be placed among the top five teams in Serie A. Very important acquisitions have been made, a coach has sat on the bench of vast experience at high levels in Europe. A player of the caliber of Galloway has arrived from the USA and Hervey is a Euroleague athlete, especially if he has fully recovered from the physical problems he has had”. Among the Italians, Sasha Grant, who you know well, has returned to the fold.

“I don’t want to say that Sasha was my discovery, but during the championship final with Sassari in 2015, they spoke very well about this young man from Dolianova and we took him to Reggio”. From which he left after a year…

“Understandable. A reduction was made in the budget intended for the youth sector and he chose the sirens of Bayern Munich. Luckily Reggio has returned to invest heavily in the youth sector in recent years.

But I must say that I assumed he would return to Italy but I didn’t expect him to choose Unahotels”.

A good move for the company, though. Will it be useful?

“He has matured over time, he has gained a lot of experience. He still has to grow, in my opinion. He did very well in A2 (Frosini took him to Verona in the summer of 2021 and Grant was instrumental in promoting the Venetians to A, ed) but Serie A is a different thing, but as a change, it’s a very interesting bet.”

18-year-old Momo Faye will be the sixth foreign…

“In my opinion, Reggio is right to try and launch it. He’s been working with Menozzi and Consolini for two years and this means that he can already compete with Serie A. Of course he needs to gain experience and it will take some time for him to become effective, however …”

…But?

“I saw him play and I really liked him. He’s a modern big man, has great physicality, but moves well, has soft hands and the right rebound timing. Then it’s true that the under championships are very different from the series A; but it is an intriguing bet that Pallacanestro Reggiana is right to try”.

The fans are back to dreaming. They’re right?

“The Bartoli family, with the other partners, has decided to invest in a product that Reggio has always liked. The fans are many and always loyal to the team, even when things go badly like last season. Furthermore it is also a great personal pleasure for me to see Pallacanestro Reggiana alive and aiming high”.

Our Serie A lost Teodosic but saw Mirotic arrive in Milan, Cauley-Stein in Varese, Galloway in Reggio, Caboclo in Venice. Is the Italian league becoming attractive again?

“It is an objective fact, and thanks to two factors. The Milan-Bologna axis which, whatever people say, has relaunched our basketball on an international level, and then the fact that there are at least four or five clubs capable to make important investments. In addition to the two mentioned: Venice is confirmed, Tortona is growing year after year, and now Pallacanestro Reggiana has also entered, with a solid, well-studied restart, and a single man in charge, the caliber of Claudio Coldebella The road is also well traced for Reggio and I, I repeat, am happy with it”.
