The 39-year-old Rodgers hasn’t played a preseason game since 2018 with the Green Bay Packers. He would start the last preseason game before the season opener on September 11 against the Buffalo Bills.
The source spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press on Sunday as the Jets have yet to announce the decision. The New York Post first reported the news about Rodgers’ debut.
Rodgers said this summer he was open to playing some preseason play as he begins his first season with the Jets, who was acquired from Green Bay in April.
