1860 Munich: First defeat of the season at 1:2 against Lübeck – Sport

At Tegernseer Landstraße 96, they will soon remove and replace the name “Riffraff” from the facade. TSV 1860 Munich takes over the cult pub and transforms it into the new club home of the lions, as the club website recently said. “Zum 60er” could soon be there, optionally also “Löwengruam”, based on an ancient place where, to put it politely, opponents should feel rather uncomfortable. Just like – from a lion’s point of view – ideally also in the local Grünwalder stadium.

The almost completely renewed soccer team of the Sixth had brought in two victories at the start of the season, in the third third division game against Lübeck they suffered their first defeat on Tuesday evening. At 1: 2 (1: 2) in the Giesinger Arena it was clear that the newly assembled lion ensemble resembled an unfinished puzzle more than a perfectly formed mosaic. Or as 60-captain Jesper Verlaat summarized after the end of the game. “After the 1-0 we became passive.”

In the stadium, which was sold out with 15,000 spectators, two teams met whose recent history could hardly be more different. TSV 1860 had almost completely replaced its workforce, the squad is hardly recognizable compared to the previous season after 18 departures and 13 arrivals. Lübeck, meanwhile, started this season largely unchanged in the core of the team. What is new for the Schleswig-Holsteiners is that they belong to league three as a result of promotion.

At the beginning of the season, the architecture of the 1860 coach Mauricio Jacobacci was still missing a spire, or rather: a storm spire. This post has now been filled, the Dutchman Joël Zwarts scored twice on his debut in Duisburg (3-0), which brought him a welcome by name from the stadium announcer on Tuesday evening and cheers from the stands.

What happened next could probably be explained by very few people in the stadium

It now looked as if they would hardly be able to get out of the hooting and praise in Giesing precisely because of this Dutchman: In the second minute, Löwen left winger Julian Guttau put through for Zwarts, who immediately pulled away, but VfB keeper Philipp Klewin steered him Ball still on the left inner post. A little later Guttau initiated another lion attack, got the ball back from a player from Lübeck and shot it over the line to make it 1-0 (11th). Another fine performance by the lions?

What happened next could probably be explained by very few people in the stadium. The sixties scored their seventh goal of the season, but this time the shot backfired, or rather, the header: Lübeck’s Tarik Gözüsirin had curled a corner over 1860 captain Jesper Verlaat, five meters behind the ball landed at Fabian Greilinger. And he headed him – actually unchallenged and in the style of a striker – into the goal corner of his keeper Marco Hiller (25th). “No one to blame, that can happen,” said Verlaat. “But we didn’t draw the right conclusions afterwards.”

Greilinger is the only one who was in the starting XI for the lions in the 2-2 draw in Zwickau in the last game of last season. It was certainly not due to him alone, the only steadfast one if you will, that the Jacobacci team collapsed like a house of cards. Gözüsirin took advantage of this circumstance again, taking the ball directly in front of the turf and putting it into the goal corner to make it 2-1 (31st).

After the break, attacking efforts by the sixties were identifiable, but hardly more. Rather, it was evident that the Jacobacci team did not seem particularly good and did not like to attack the tight defensive bars that the Lübeck team were now deploying. “We tried to use more playful means and be more dominant,” explained coach Jakubacci. “But there were simply not enough situations going forward.” The Sechzgerstadion turned out to be less of a “Löwengruam” on this Tuesday evening. Perhaps the followers caught up later that evening in a small boazn on Tegernseer Landstrasse.
