Women’s World Cup: 50,000 spectators on Friday for the Blue match against Australia

50,000 spectators are expected on Friday (11:30 a.m.) in Melbourne to watch the Australia-France match, the ultimate test of preparation for the Women’s World Cup (July 20 – August 20), a new record for the local women’s national team, as announced the Australian Federation on Thursday. “The match will set a new national record,” the Federation said in a statement announcing that all tickets had been sold. The previous attendance record for a “Matildas” match dates back to 2021, for a friendly against the United States in Sydney, with 36,109 spectators.

The Australian Federation has made this match a major event, one week before the start of the Women’s World Cup, also played in New Zealand. The national team has increased communications operations in Melbourne in recent days, and a big musical show is planned at Marvel Stadium before and after the match in the stadium located in the Docklands district.

For both teams, this will be the last preparation match before the World Cup-2023. Les Bleues, victorious 3-0 on July 6 in Ireland in their first preparation match, return to contention on July 23 (12:00 p.m.) at the World Cup in Sydney, against Jamaica.
