The coup of the market of Varese basketball arrived at the very end of the signing campaign: Willie Cauley – Stein. For pedigree and curriculum, in fact, the US center born in 1993, with over 420 games in the NBA between the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks and Philadelphia 76Sixers, it represents the central backbone, on which much of the game of coach Tom Bialaszewski’s team will develop.
All that was missing was therefore the pivot to complete a group that, until the taking of Cauley-Stein it was very, very similar to that of last season in terms of the characteristics, techniques and physiques of its performers. It goes without saying that the presence of the long USA changes a lot the physiognomy of a group that earns chili, centimeters e weight in the paint completely different from last year’s presence Tariq Owens.
Indeed, Cauley-Stein with its 213 cm for 109 kgwill give Varese the opportunity to exploit much more the game in the low postviable alternative to that in pick’n’roll in which the red and white center is still more than run-in. In fact, despite being a center with a very impressive tonnage, Cauley-Stein loves to roll to fly to the iron, in continuity with what Owens did last year.
The new red and white center has maybe less agility and athleticism but more structure of Tariq, a constant presence that allows him to occupy the paint in the best possible way, both in the rebound fight and above all in the iron coverits great view aptitude and ability to stop the opponents.
The presence of Cauley-Stein under the planks will also allow the wingers and guards from Varese to find more space on the wingers, with the center inevitably always carrying at least one if not two defenders, thus being able to play the ball inside-out for Armane Hanlan, McDermott and Brown.

A pivot who has earned approx 25 million dollars from his experiences in the NBA, who lived the best years with Sacramento when, between 2016 and 2019, he recorded true top numbers in the NBA, closing the three-year period with Averaged 10.9 points and 6.6 rebounds.
The hypotheses of a possible landing in Varese linked to physical problems were also denied in the bud: the player is more than fine, as shown by the 30 games played last season in the G-League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
