Work on the covered stand, which will be able to accommodate 1,500 spectators, began in January 2023. The framework, bleachers and structure of the various spaces are now complete.

The building will eventually house, on the ground floor, a new weight room, offices and a reception area, in particular for the Metropolitan Stadium, the resident rugby club which competes in national 2. A restaurant with kitchen will complete the set at the top of the stands.

This phase of work is the first of a global project, also including the development of outdoor spaces to accommodate 3,600 athletes and spectators. The finalization of this stage is scheduled for early 2024, before the launch of phase 2, which will include the energy renovation and compliance of the old building.

Renovation of a football pitch at Iris

In the Iris sports complex, the multi-purpose room dedicated in particular to gymnastic activities, health sports, the reception of associations and resident clubs, is about to be inaugurated. Alongside this new building, one of the two football pitches is getting a facelift. The synthetic rubber surface has been ripped away to be replaced by a natural cork and sand pitch, resting on a cushioning cast layer.

The multipurpose room is now ready to welcome people

This new floor will make it possible, in addition to providing additional comfort for sportsmen and women, to effectively fight against heat islands, since a difference of up to 10°C can be recorded between the temperature emanating from a cork court and that of a rubber court. With this coating, part of the rainwater will also be drained and collected in a 50 m3 container to be then used for watering the city’s planted containers in times of drought. The land should be usable at the beginning of October.

It should be noted that the project also provides for the replacement of all the football goals and the installation of a ball-stop.

A new floor for the Jean-Mollier gymnasium

After a month and a half of construction, the old PVC floor of this gymnasium, which hosts primary and secondary school classes, was replaced by a versatile flexible floor, laid on a waterproof vinyl underlay. With specific qualities in terms of shock absorption and ball rebound, this new surface makes it possible to improve playing comfort, but also to accommodate other types of events, such as association meetings or election-type deadlines. The ground layout includes 9 badminton courts, a basketball, handball and volleyball court.
