The Journey of Former Meitoku Gijuku Baseball Player turned Trainer, Hiroki Hisamatsu, at ‘ANAZING’ Cram School

Former Meitoku Gijuku Hiroki Hisamatsu Trainer at the baseball cram school “ANAZING”

I want to turn the efforts of children into smiles. Hiroki Hisamatsu, who used to play baseball at the prestigious Meitoku Gijuku High School and now works as a trainer at the baseball cram school “AMAZING”, had a turning point in his life when he was in his second year of college. When he was in elementary school, he realized that the 150 push-ups he did on a daily basis were not performance-enhancing. He is telling a highly effective training method to reduce the number of youth baseball players who experience like himself.

After going through Kochi and Meitoku Gijuku High School from Osaka Prefecture’s powerhouse Higashiyodogawa Boys, he entered Osaka Sangyo University on a baseball recommendation. Hisamatsu’s career looks glamorous. He just felt his own limits as he witnessed the level of players playing in the prestigious professional and social circles. He played as an infielder at Meitoku Gijuku, but the wall of his regularity was thick. Junichiro Kishi, an outfielder who currently belongs to Seibu, is one year below him.

“At Meitoku Gijuku, I learned about the high level of the people around me. I didn’t have the confidence to achieve results in college baseball and go on to become a member of society, so I wanted to start living in the future.”

Hisamatsu started a part-time job at a fitness club, partly because his university major was body mechanics and coaching. There he was shocked.

“When I was in elementary school, I had a routine of doing 150 push-ups every day. Even though I had been building muscle strength in junior high and high school, when I was taught the correct way to do push-ups, I could only do 20. I have been doing it until now. I learned how inefficient my training was.”

The meeting that turned out to be a turning point…Tags with Minoru Hirohata, the former captain of Osaka Toin

Hisamatsu vaguely felt that his training was not connected to his baseball performance. He learned the position and posture of his hands and how to use the muscles when doing push-ups at a fitness club, and his long-standing doubts were resolved. And then a new thought arose.

“Until now, training was aimed at the number of times, and it was not a sensible method.

I gave up on being a player and started studying to become a trainer. In his third year of university, he opened a school for juniors and taught them how to use their bodies and training methods. After graduating from university, he supports players in a wide range of categories, including players from his alma mater Meitoku Gijuku High School Baseball Club and professional baseball players.

While working as a trainer, a big encounter came in 2019. I met Minoru Hirohata through a childhood friend of the Osaka Toin High School Baseball Club. Hirohata was the former captain of Osaka Toin, and walked the “royal road” of the amateur baseball world with Asia University and JR Tokai. After his retirement, he has been sharing his skills and knowledge on baseball cram school “AMAZING” and his own YouTube channel. Mr. Hirohata, who proves his batting theory with his own body, asked me to help him with my training.

Mr. Hirohata, who sympathized with Mr. Hisamatsu’s training method, asked him to coach the players at a baseball cram school, and he continues to support the players. What I feel when teaching elementary and junior high school students is the stiffness of my ankles and hip joints. It is said that there are many athletes who are not good at rotating movements. Hisamatsu says, “I think they don’t know how to move their bodies because they don’t have enough opportunities to exercise when they are young. talk.

“I don’t want my children to have the same experience as me.”

Hisamatsu puts emphasis on training that uses a large amount of the body and increases the variation of movement, and has put together a menu that matches the age group. Training with dodgeball is one of them. Unlike a baseball that can be manipulated with your arms and fingertips, you can’t throw a strong ball unless you use your hip joints and chest area well. He gives guidance that is not bound by baseball movements and tools.

“It makes more sense to use your body to the fullest before building muscle strength, and you will be able to generate more power. I believe that mastering techniques for manipulating the body will improve performance in the future, rather than strength training, which is less effective.”

Even if the amount of time spent is the same, the speed of progress will change depending on how you train. “I don’t want the children of today to have the same experiences and thoughts that I had,” says Hisamatsu. form the efforts of the athletes.
