The Embassy and Fuengirola, a “home” for NBA players

The facilities of The Embassy -directed by Berni Rodríguez and José Manuel Calderón from Malaga- hosted a press conference on Tuesday regarding the new agreement that the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Junta de Andalucía and the National Players Association swing basket (NBPA) have arrived for the great American stars to return to make Fuengirola “a home” for the second consecutive summer.

Top players in the NBA like Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics), Donovan Mitchell (Cleveland Cavaliers), Steven Adams (Memphis Grizzlies), Davis Bertans (Oklahoma City Thunder), Usman Garuba (Thunder, for the moment) or Spanish Santi Aldama (Memphis Grizzlies) are some of the 21 NBA starsBesides of joven Be Almansa, which will pass these days through the facilities of The Embassy and Fuengirola. Jose Maria Arrabal, General Secretary of Sports of the Board, wanted to value an agreement that they hope will be extended over time: «It is the second edition that we host based on the agreement that the Sports Department signed with the NBPA. This is only the beginning of a long future that would be impossible without a first class facility, is a reference. Let’s hope we live some extraordinary days.”

Ana Mulla, mayoress of Fuengirola, praised the commitment of her town hall: “Fuengirola is committed to this sports center to be a benchmark for sport at a world and European level from the point of view of the most advanced facility and with players of the level we have in the nba. We have built and financed this bet. This has allowed Fuengirola to consolidate itself as a sports destination and is essential for us.. Thanks to the commitment of the NBA to make us a wellness destination. You have to keep betting on it.”

much more than basketball

It is inevitable to recognize that the agreement between The Embassy and the NBPA is based on basketball. However, it goes much further, as he explained Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, CEO from the American institution: «We feel at home, it’s a home. This facility is not just an opportunity for players to come train, we are also here for social values. It is not only the space, but also the hospitality.”

A point on which he wanted to insist Jose Manuel Calderon: «The players want to leave their mark in Fuengirola, to help and educate. That all young people have experiences like this with the players they see on television is… The players are delighted. That means that it is no longer just the event or basketball, it is the area and the site. It is important that they feel at home. Hopefully I can continue to grow. It is not easy to find a place of this level with a beach or cultural sites”, concluded the world champion about the Fuengirola facilities.
