Schwechat Blue Bats and Traiskirchen Grasshoppers Split Wins in Lower Austria Derby

In the Lower Austria Derby doubleheader between the Schwechat Blue Bats and the Traiskirchen Grasshoppers, both teams were able to record one win each.

For the Grasshoppers, who were clearly inferior to Schwechat last Tuesday, this was the first win against the Blue Bats this season. The Schwechat Blue Bats and the Traiskirchen Grasshoppers only faced each other on Tuesday. In the Nights Game from almost a week ago, the Blue Bats clearly prevailed in the Ballpark Freudenau in Vienna.

The first meeting between the two teams in Traiskirchen on Sunday seemed like a copy of this encounter. While the Grasshoppers couldn’t find a pitching rhythm, the Blue Bats had eleven runs in the first two innings. The Grasshoppers, led by Jose Ortiz, were able to shorten the lead, but couldn’t get back into the game.

In the second encounter, Grasshopper import pitcher Davind Tongue delivered a solid encounter and controlled the Blue Bats offense. The Grasshoppers’ offensive was able to produce good base hits against Matthew Jensen and thus gain a 3:1 lead after the first two innings. As a result, the young Traiskirchner players were also able to record successes: 17-year-old Eric Clauss scored his first hit in the Bundesliga and 16-year-old Maximilian Müller also impressed with a 2-RBI triple. Jose Ortiz provided the highlight of the encounter with a spectacular home run. The Grasshoppers finally prevailed 13:3 after seven innings (Mercy Rule), but had to accept a drop of bitterness with a few injuries.
