Rugby: Les Bleuets qualified after their new overwhelming victory against Wales

The France under-20 team brilliantly qualified for the semi-finals of the World Cup in South Africa, by chaining Tuesday in Cape Town against Wales a third bonus success (43-19) in so many encounters.

This last group match started very strong for the French, who scored the first try in the 10th minute via Nicolas Depoortere. Despite the expulsion of their hooker Barnabé Massa, whose yellow card in the 15th minute was changed to red in the 24th, the Bleuets continued with two new tries in two minutes, from Clément Mondinat and Léo Carbonneau.

Despite a try from the Welsh at the end of the half, they resumed the march forward in the second half, scoring three new tries (Nicolas Depoortere again, Lino Julien and Maël Moustin). The final score is final (43-19), like the first round of the Bleuets, who have already flown through the first two meetings against Japan and New Zealand.

First in their pool with 15 points, Sébastien Calvet’s protégés will play their semi-final on Sunday. They are now two games away from retaining their title. Ireland, which beat Fiji earlier in the day (47-27), is also qualified thanks to its first place in front of England.
