Kazakhstan’s Judo Delegation Prepares for Paris 2024 Olympics in Mèze

The coach of the delegation is, since last year, the former judoka
international Stéphane Traineau (former world champion and double
Olympic heavyweight category), former director of the French judo teams.

From July 10 to 16, the City of Mèze welcomes the strong judo delegation from Kazakhstan for the preparation of the 2024 Olympic Games, which will take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. They are 17 athletes and 4 accompanying persons, including a judoka under 48 kilos vice-world champion, to take advantage of the sports facilities of the City of Mèze and in particular the Bernard Jeu gymnasium, the only room in the region that can accommodate 8 combat areas and up to 900 competitors.

This training course is organized following the meeting between the mayor Thierry Baëza, his deputy for sport, Nicolas Archimbeau, and the leaders of the judo federation of Kazakhstan, the president (Kuanyshbek Yessekeev), the secretary general (Askhat Zhitkeyev) as well as their French coach, Stéphane Traineau, last February. This pre-Olympic stay allows Mèze to fully subscribe to the “Terre de jeux Paris 2024” label.

« A wish above all motivated by the quality sports equipment and collective accommodation solutions available in the city. The entire team will be accommodated at the Taurus and “Thalassa” accommodation centres. The municipality is carrying out very strong action in favor of sport and is working in particular on its potential for hosting high-level sport. Projects to modernize its sports facilities and accommodation are also underway. explains Mayor Thierry Baëza.

The program for the week of Kazakh judokas was developed in conjunction with the city’s sports department, in partnership with associations from Mézoise: intensive training at the Bernard Jeu gymnasium, bodybuilding, water sports, discovery of the lagoon by sailboat, etc.

The reception of the delegation is organized by the City of Mèze, in partnership with the Occitanie region and Sète agglopôle Méditerranée.
