Jasmine Camacho-Quinn’s Rest Pays Off as Rivals Shine in Diamond League 100m Hurdles Race

Jasmine Camacho Quinn didn’t race in Poland, but her common rivals did run, and they did it fast.

A Diamond League 100-meter hurdles race was held in Poland this Sunday and the top three runners, including champion and world record holder Tobi Amusan, dropped 12.40 seconds in the test.

Camacho Quinn was going to run in the event, but her work team preferred to rest the athlete who is preparing to compete next month at the Budapest 2023 World Championships.

The winner was Amusan with a time of 12.34. She was followed by former champion and world record holder Kendra Harrison in 12.35 and Nia Ali in 12.38. Amusan’s and Harrison’s times were their best of the season, plus Amusan’s was a record for the event, called the Silesia in Poland.

Amusan is first in the Diamond League 100m hurdles standing with 23 points. She is followed by Camacho Quinn with 16 points and Ali with 15. Amusan has run in three Diamond League races, while the Puerto Rican has participated in two. The standing determines the nine runners who qualify for the final of the Diamond League.

Amusan was proclaimed world champion in the Oregon 2022 final, where the Puerto Rican finished third. In the semifinal of that World Championship, Amusan set the new world mark of 12.12, leaving behind the mark of 12.20 that belonged to Harrison.

Since then, Camacho Quinn has beaten Amusan three times and in 2023 joins a streak of 10 consecutive victories in the 100-meter hurdles that includes the semifinals and final of the San Salvador 2023 Games, where he won gold with a time of 12.61.

Amusan, Harrison and Camacho Quinn among others are anticipated to star in the 2023 World Championship final.
