Italy wins against Argentina thanks to Girelli

Joker Cristiana Girelli gave the Italian national soccer team the hoped-for victory at the World Cup with her redeeming goal. The 33-year-old from Juventus Turin scored the decisive goal late in the 1-0 (0-0) win against Argentina (87th). Girelli had come on as a substitute in Auckland just three minutes earlier.

Her headed goal from the first incoming cross of the game put Italy level with Sweden in Group G. The 2019 World Cup bronze medalist defeated South Africa 2-1 with difficulty on Sunday.

Italy with two offside goals

First, Italy, who had reached the quarter-finals in 2019, celebrated twice too early: Arianna Caruso (15th) and Valentina Giacinti (42nd) were both offside when their goals were scored. Otherwise, the game was very poor in highlights.
