2024 WORLD JUDO CHAMPIONSHIPS – Clarisse Agbegnenou wins the second medal for the French team: her first world bronze medal.
In the 2nd round, Clarisse Agbegnenou (-63 kg) faced Natalia Kropska. After a first alert in the first seconds, Agbegnenou scored a waza-ari. The Frenchwoman then followed up with an ippon (mowing) to qualify for the next round.
Then she had an appointment with Megumi Horikawa against whom she had an interminable fight in Paris in the 3rd round. This time, it took her less time since at the very end of the fight she achieved an immobilization.

In the quarterfinals, she faced the world number one Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard. Until now, the Frenchwoman had always won against the Canadian. Including in the quarterfinals last year and in the semi-final of the 2020 Olympics. And the Frenchwoman was off to a good start with a big first attack which could not go as far as immobilization. And 1 minute from the end, the Canadian knocked her down on her side to score a waza-ari, after good work on the ground. Despite French attempts, Beauchemin-Pinard held up well. Despite two shido obtained in this time, she held on to obtain her first victory against the Frenchwoman.
In the repechage fight, Agbegnenou faced Iva Oberan. She beat her at the start of the year in Tashkent in the quarterfinals. She imposed herself at the end of the fight, making the Croatian break and ending with an immobilization.
In the fight for bronze, she faced Andreja Leski, world number 7. Another opponent to whom she had never lost with two victories in Paris and two victories in the final of the 2021 & 2023 World Championships.

Alpha Oumar Djalo (-81 kg) started against Dominic Ressel. Despite two penalties, the German seemed closest to completing an attack.
