Today, the Latvian football champion team “Valmiera” is visiting San Marino “Tre Penne” in the first match of the second round of the UEFA Conference League qualification tournament.
The match in Serravalle will start at 21.45 Latvian time. The return match will take place in Valmiera on August 1. The winner of this pair will face Andorra’s Athletic Club d’Escaldes or Albania’s Partizani in the third qualifying round.
“Valmiera” is playing in the Eurocups for the fourth time, but this season it was the first time it started in the Champions League qualification, losing 2:4 to “Olimpija” Ljubljana in the first round duel in the sum of two matches. Last season Valmieri competed in the Conference League qualification, which lost 2:5 to the North Macedonian club Shkendija in the second round, but in 2021 they ended the competition after the first round of the Conference League qualification. The people of Valmiera still haven’t won any match in the Eurocups.
The San Marino team, which has won the local championship five times, suffered a 1:7 defeat in the first round of Champions League qualification in a duel with the Icelandic club “Breidablik” of Koupavogur. The San Marino club is playing in European Cups for the 11th time, having lost all 12 duels so far. In the previous season, “Tre Penne” lost 0:8 to the Bosnian club “City” of Tuzla in the first round of the Conference League qualification in the sum of two matches. Neither “Valmiera” has played with San Marino clubs, nor “Tre Penne” with Latvian teams.
Valmieri have experienced three losses in the last four games, including two with the same result of 1:2 against Olimpija. In the middle of the two games, in the round of 16 of the Latvian Cup, they managed to beat Salaspils “Super Nova” with 2:0, but in the last game of the Latvian championship, “Daugavpilij” had to lose 0:1 at home. Last year’s San Marino champion finished the national championship already at the end of April, ahead of Serravalle Cosmos by one point.
The eight winners of the second round pairs will enter the third round of the Champions branch of the Conference Cup, where “Flora” from Tallinn and “Lincoln Red Imps” from Gibraltar have already entered without playing, but the competition will be over for the losers.
In the first match of the second round of the RFS, they will meet “Sabah” from Azerbaijan Masazir on Wednesday in Jurmala, “Riga” will play as a guest against “Kecskemeti” from Hungary on Thursday, and “Auda”, the winner of the Latvian Cup, will play at home with Slovakian team “Spartak” from Trnava.
