A total of 14 players will be part of the Select Team of the United States with a view to the 2023 World Cup in Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia.
After journalists Shams Sharania and Adrian Wojnarowski announced the names of nine players on the roster, USA Basketball has made the call official and revealed the entry of five other athletes: Herb Jones (Pelicans), Jalen Duren (Pistons), Langston Galloway (Free Agent), John Jenkins and Eric Mika (G League Ignite). These last three have been recognized after participating in the last two years in the FIBA World Cup qualifying windows.
The five join Cade Cunningham (Pistons), Jalen Green (Rockets), Keegan Murray (Kings), Chet Holgrem (Thunder), Jalen Williams (Thunder), Naz Reid (Timberwolves), Payton Prichard (Celtics), Trey Murphy (Pelicans) and Quentin Grimes (Knicks) in the squad that will train with the first team. Additionally, players will be eligible to substitute for a teammate in case of injury prior to the tournament.
“We have a good mix of young players. Everyone will play a huge role in our success in Manila as we continue to develop the national team’s youth system for years to come,” Team USA Director Grant Hill said in a press release.

Meanwhile, this is the eighth team that the Americans have put together for the purpose of training the national team. The first was in 2007 and, since then, up to 29 basketball players have participated in the Select Team and then they have worn the shirt in World Cups or Olympic Games. Mikal Bridges, Jalen Brunson, Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, Brandon Ingram and Jaren Jackson will be the most recent members to join the roster.
For his part, Jamahl Mosley (Magic) will be the head coach and will accompany him as assistants Jim Boylen (Pacers) and Matt Painter (Purdue University).
He training camp of the United States will begin on August 3 in Las Vegas. His debut is scheduled for the 26th of the same month against Jordan in the Philippine capital. Bridges and Brunson, according to strategist Steve Kerr, are called to be the leaders among the 12 called.
