The Spanish cyclist Carlos Rodríguez (INEOS Grenadiers) stated that he only thought about “doing the best possible stage” this Saturday during the fourteenth day of the Tour de France, “whether he was looking for the podium or not”, his great objective now after winning at the finish line located in Morzine Les Portes du Soleil.
“I was going to do the best stage possible, whether I was looking for the podium or not. The truth is that I don’t know how much the crash affected Hindley, but it’s not something I like either. Because if I took the time for touched, because I don’t like to do things like that”, Rodríguez told RTVE after his victory.
The Andalusian won this fourteenth stage of the ‘Grande Boucle’ in its 110th edition, starting in Annemasse and experiencing a massive fall in the first kilometres. “So I wish him a good recovery, I have simply focused on making the best stage possible and hopefully we will have a nice fight until Paris,” said Rodríguez.
“The truth is that I am very happy and I hope that it continues like this,” said the man from Granada, who also provisionally placed third in the general classification. “The truth is that it has been a day of suffering from the beginning, but it has been worth it. I have achieved the victory and I still don’t believe it. I thought it would not be possible and, well, I have been able to achieve it thanks to the work of the whole team,” he stressed.
“They have been 10, not only today but every day; and, if it weren’t for them, this would not have been possible. I have focused on having the best possible race, the truth is that the sensations at the beginning have not been the best and I also had a puncture just before starting the Col de la Ramaz, which I started with quite a disadvantage”, he recounted.
“But hey, hopefully it hasn’t taken a toll on me and then at the Col de Juox Plane the truth is that the feeling has been quite good. I have focused on making the best possible climb. And the same on the descent, on going full throttle to the finish line and try to get the maximum advantage possible”, Rodríguez finally described.
