From October 28 to 29, 2023, Abidjan hosts the first edition of the “Afro Budo Festival”. An event that will bring together different styles of martial arts from around the world. Namely judo, taekwondo, shotokan, Ju-jitsu, kung-fu, tai-chi, etc.
The news was given by Me Aimé Brika on July 1, 2023, during a press briefing in Abidjan-Cocody. During this meeting, Me Brika, president of the International Association of Martial Arts (Aiam) and promoter of the event, explained the merits of this festival.
According to him, it is an opportunity to strengthen social ties between masters of different disciplines, to make known African masters and the martial arts practiced in Africa, to create synergy between practitioners of different schools, to promote the detection of talents.
Because, he says, “we want to periodically organize the Afro budo festival. Which for us will become a traditional meeting place for martial arts practitioners in Africa. In addition, fraternization and exchange for all the martial arts practiced on the African continent. A place where all the great masters and experts can rub shoulders to learn a little from each other (…)”.

He mentioned that there is an advantage to this variety. There are disciplines for all tastes and skill levels.
As for Wilfried Malan Sensei, president of the organizing committee, he rather invited the Ivorian population to take part massively in this great meeting.
According to him, it’s a real rewarding meeting that will allow them to learn about the different martial arts, know their history and characteristics through photo exhibitions, exchange with masters.
Present, the masters such as Fanny Aboubakar, Patrice Baï, Zozo Tapé and many others welcomed the initiative which, according to them, comes at the right time.
