Yvelines: an Algerian international footballer in police custody for attempted murder of his sister

From the floodlights of football stadiums to the darkness of his cell at the police station. A 31-year-old Algerian international player was arrested overnight from Sunday to Monday at his parents’ home in Maurepas (Yvelines), where he was taking some rest. Attacking the Qatari club Al-Gharafa SC in the team, he fought with his 15-year-old sister before being taken into police custody in Trappes for “attempted murder”.

The player who was trained in Trappes and Paris Saint-Germain played for Olympique Lyonnais then in Italy and Germany before ending his career in Qatar. He has nineteen caps for the Algerian national team since 2013.

The Franco-Algerian was on vacation in the family home. He argued with his younger sister before coming to blows and even tried to strangle her. Around 6:45 p.m., the girl called the police. Officials found multiple red marks around his neck and scratch marks on his forearms.

Her sister still hasn’t filed a complaint.

The sportsman was placed in police custody in the premises of the urban security of Élancourt to prevent any attempt to escape. But for now, his sister has still not pushed the door of the police station to file a complaint as he had been asked.

The causes of this intra-family violence are still obscure. The investigation is continuing to shed light on this case. The young man will be interviewed by the investigators and the Versailles prosecutor’s office has 48 hours to decide what to do with this case.
