What about Anderlecht and Standard in the following years? “It will be drumming for the top 6” | Jupiler Pro League

The top 4 – Antwerp, Genk, Union and Club Brugge to a lesser extent – was very strong this season and Club will in principle be stronger next season. What about the traditional top clubs Anderlecht and Standard, can they compete for the prizes in the short term?

Vandenbempt does not immediately believe in it: “If you say next year, I tend to say no. I cannot put a time limit on when that will be again. But if you see where they have to come from: Anderlecht have it financially and sportingly difficult.”

“The difference is very big. They sometimes have the impression that the difference is not that far off. That will have to be seen.”

“Standard had started a project with an excellent trainer (Ronny Deila, ed.), they have to start again there. Will they find the same trainer or not? They have already indicated that it will have to be done with the same budget or a little less. That is also one of the reasons why Deila left.”

Both Anderlecht and Standard therefore have a very large backlog, Vandenbempt realizes. “I know that such considerations have been made before and that clubs suddenly come to the surface again.”

“But there are also a few other clubs that hang somewhere in between and provide stiff competition. I’m thinking of Cercle Brugge, for example.”

Snelders throws AA Gent on the table. “Because that was not far from Bruges.”

Vandenbempt sees great happiness for Anderlecht and Standard: “Next season we will play play-offs again with six teams. That does make a difference. We are curious whether Union can do this again. Of course we don’t know. But otherwise it’s drumming, also in the top 6.”
