Ennepetal Raccoons: A Successful Start for the New Softball Team

Ennepetal. Three years after the end of the Bundesliga team, the club is starting a new team again. And that is immediately successful.

The first game was a complete success for the new team Ennepetal Raccoons. The newly founded softball team of the club, which had lost many members after its own baseball facility was abandoned around three years ago, won its first game with 12:3. The composition of the team proves that the Raccoons continue to have a good name in the scene.

16 players are in the new one Coach Sebastian Tausch currently available. The former softball Bundesliga player brought nine of them with him from his previous club in Wuppertal, where the local team had disbanded after some upheaval. “We then looked at what was in the area and then came across the raccoons. We were welcomed here with open arms,” says the 33-year-old Tausch. For the Raccoons, the players from Wuppertal, together with some young Ennepetalers, are now forming the new softball team, which is competing in the state league.

Fun is the priority in Ennepetal

Softball is a sport that is similar to baseball but differs in aspects such as the ball, bats and field size. “It’s actually a different sport,” says Tausch. His new team is made up of all age groups, the youngest players are still active in the Raccoons U15 girls team, and the oldest player is over 50 years old. But everyone has fun – regardless of age, which is clearly a priority for Sebastian Tausch. “It’s just part of our sport,” he says. Training takes place on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 p.m., new teammates are always welcome.

The new coach doesn’t have any particular sporting goals for the team at the moment, but he can imagine that his team can play a good role in the state league, which is the lowest division. The Ennepetal women clearly won their first victory with 12:3 against the Jülich Duchess. This Saturday they will make their first appearance in front of their home audience at Voerder Tanneneck. “We’re really looking forward to that,” says Tausch. It starts at 4 p.m. when the new Raccoons team awaits the Neunkirchen Nightmares II. The name of the opponent shouldn’t cause much fear, after all, the Ennepetal baseball players have already experienced their nightmare. “This is really a great story for our club,” says de happilyr Chairman Andreas Bernhard.
