Salbris Badminton Team’s Intense Playoff Weekend: A Review

The Salbrisiens played this weekend with the nerves of their supporters. Some made the trip to Clermont-Ferrand, others attended the matches in front of their screens.

The Nationale 2 play-offs delivered their verdict on Sunday morning at the end of the suspense. After a very intense first day on Saturday, Salbris took first place in its play-off group.

Two victories against Saint-Louis and Lyon

From 11 a.m., the Solognots gave their best to snatch a draw against the Saint-Louis team (Alsace) and a favorable goal average. Leading 4-2 after a magnificent men’s singles 1, won in 1 hour 20 minutes by Maxime Michel, Salbris saw the Alsatians return to 4-4 after the mixed.

As expected, the women’s squad was able to make the difference in the match by winning the two women’s singles and the women’s doubles.

Around 6 p.m., the second match against Lyon is decisive if they hope to play the final match on Sunday morning. Saint-Louis having beaten the Lyonnais, the Salbrisiens knew that a draw would be the minimum to take one of the first two places in the group.

The Salbrisiens were solid in the important moments of the match and won 5 to 3, still winning the women’s singles, and this time the men’s doubles and the two mixed ones.

Salbris fails very close to the goal against Carquefou

First in the group, Salbris plays second in the other group, Carquefou, on Sunday morning. This time, victory is imperative to progress next season in N1. The match started strong with the loss of the men’s doubles of the Michel – Prouvost pair.

The women’s doubles of the Korosi – Novak pair wins at the last minute and allows them to return to 1-1. Alizée Simon gives Salbris the advantage with her single but Noah Bulut loses in singles 1. At 2-2, Agnes Korosi wins her ladies’ singles 1 quite clearly but Alexis Chollet loses against a stronger player in singles 2.

At 3-3, the tension becomes palpable. Mixed 1 of the Simon – Prouvost pair lost in two close rounds. Trailing 3-4, the Salbrisians have their backs to the wall. Mixed 2 of the Novak – Michel pair won in two rounds.

At 4-4, a new match, the mixed gold, will decide the winner of the match. Carquefou keeps its mixed 1 and Salbris chooses to innovate with Agnes Korosi associated with Maxime Michel.

Defeated 21-17, 21-18, the Salbrisiens failed very close to the goal and remained in National 2. “I am very proud of the level of play produced by the team, underlines Captain Philippe Michel. The experience was intense, it’s only been postponed”. Even if it is hypothetical, Salbris could hope for a draft, if one of the elite teams were to not re-register.

The team remains the best in the region

At the same time, team 3 from Salbris, champion of Regional 3 last year, finished 2nd in the Regional 2 play-offs. It won 8-0 against team 3, from Orléans before losing 5- 3 against Lucé, and moves up to Regional 1.

With a team in Nationale 2, the 3rd French division, a team in Nationale 3 and another in Regionale 1, Salbris is the best team in the region.

At home, the Blois reserve also took 2nd place in the Regional 3 play-offs and moved up to Regional 2.
