Carabobeño Salvador Pérez, of the Kansas City Royals, and Francisco Álvarez, from Mirandino, of the New York Mets, were named the best catchers of the month of May in the American League and National League, respectively by Major League Baseball.

Pérez, who is in his 12th MLB season, batted .302 in May on 29 hits in 96 at-bats, including 9 homers, 19 RBIs and 18 runs scored for a .337 OBP and .665 slugging percentage.
Salvy woke up with 12 home runs, 32 hits this season and a .284 average.
In the Old Circuit, the Guatireño prospect Francisco Álvarez also distributed the even firewood last month. The 21-year-old mask hit for a .292 average (21 hits in 71 trips to the plate, with 7 home runs, 6 doubles, 17 RBIs and 11 runs scored. Álvarez posted a .667 slugging percentage and a .363 OBP. connected 9 woods and pushed 19 stripes.
