Ruud defeated Rune and returns to the Roland Garros semifinals

Casper Ruud (4th in the ATP) went to the Roland Garros semifinals after defeating Holger Rune (6th) 6-1, 6-2, 3-6 and 6-3. In the next round, the Norwegian will face Alexander Zverev.

During the first two sets, the Dane was very erratic and the Norwegian knew how to capitalize on it perfectly. With fewer errors and more forcefulness, he quickly moved up 6-1, 6-2.

However, in the third quarter the panorama changed radically. Rune began to hit more and was instantly reflected on the scoreboard with an early break. Firm with his serve and incisive from the return, he knew how to put Ruud in real trouble to win that set 6-3.

Anyway, already in the fourth set the tonic was more like the beginningwith a stronger Norwegian who ended up closing it 6-1, 6-2, 3-6 and 6-3.

A detail to note is that they had recently met in the semifinals of the Rome Masters 1000. Despite the fact that the Norwegian had won the first round, the Dane had finally managed to turn the tide to win 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-2 in what meant his first victory against Ruud .

In the next round he will face Alexander Zverev (27th), who comes from defeating Argentine Tomás Etcheverry (49th) 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 and 6-4. So far, the record favors the German with two wins in three games. However, the Norwegian was left with the last duel: in the Masters 1000 de Miami (2022) by 6-3, 1-6 and 6-3.

For now, Ruud remains firm in the search to defend the points of the final achieved during the 2022 season, when he ended up losing in the final to Rafael Nadal in straight sets.
