Sat.1 apologizes for sound problems – and can do better today

Stand: 02.06.2023

In the first leg of the relegation between VfB Stuttgart and Hamburger SV, there was a long-term technical fault at the transmitting station. Sat.1 apologized to its viewers. 24 hours later there is a chance to make amends.

WLike last year, Sat.1 was also part of the relegation in addition to HSV. The television station had secured the rights three years ago from the 2021/2022 season. The broadcast from the Stuttgart stadium started punctually at 8.15 p.m., but like the Hamburg team later with their goal after 44 seconds, the first big faux pas for the TV station was to follow in the first minute of the show.

Viewers saw a conversation between moderator Matthias Opdenhövel and expert Markus Babbel, but they couldn’t hear either of them. A murmur overlaid the duo’s remarks. A problem that persisted and grew into an annoying hum after six minutes. It wasn’t until another long minute later that the sound was back – but not yet stable, as was to be seen after the first of numerous commercial breaks.

The television broadcaster apologized in the face of numerous complaints on social networks before the game via Twitter: “We apologize for the initial sound problems on TV,” wrote Sat.1 and wished “enjoy watching”, without explaining the reasons for the problems to name.

Commentator Wolff-Christoph Fuss also expressed his regret: “We heard that the sound was not working properly on some devices, we apologize for that. Maybe something didn’t sit right.” A reference to the memorable start of the 2004/2005 season, when the floodlights went out immediately before the game between Werder Bremen and FC Schalke 04, causing a delay of 65 minutes. The reason for the darkness was a blown high-voltage socket, as the municipal works later explained.

Luckily it didn’t last that long in Stuttgart, and they also have the opportunity to make amends directly at Sat.1. While HSV can only do better in the second leg on Monday after the 3-0 defeat at VfB, the broadcaster can play again on Friday evening.
